History of the 21st Century Batting Tee

The 21st Century Batting Tee has 15 years of history behind it, and was borne out of necessity.  As a coach I need to be able to isolate the hitter’s swing and isolate different components of the swing—setup and presentation, initial start of the swing, the swing itself, bat-ball contact, techniques for how to hit pitches in different parts of the strike zone, and finally, the follow-through.  Stationary Batting Tees are good for evaluating the start of a player’s swing but in a game situation when the ball is moving it’s hard to gauge how that player will adjust to the ball.  The Batting cage is a good way to see the full swing of a player but once the player gets the timing and location of the pitches down you can’t tell how he/she will react when the ball moves out of their sweet spot.  Sometimes even getting “Cage Time” is hard and expensive, and with minimal resources and help, being able to give instruction one on one becomes even more valuable.  When evaluating a new player’s swings and helping  them to correct certain aspects of their swing I need to be able to observe from 360 degrees and cannot effectively observe from a crouched position Soft-Tossing.   After two years searching and using different products on the market I found that there was nothing out there to help me.

Over the course of the next five years I developed a new type of batting tee.  At first it was home-made, bulky and you needed to have two people to operate it, but it worked liked nothing else out there.  My research team continued to work on the design for the next 9 years and have brought the Pop Toss to a new level of durability, ease of use, and quality.  The Pop Toss now features an adjustable timer to launch the ball so the hitter can use it by themselves, it also has an angled platform that it can rest upon to pop the ball on an angle much like a soft toss drill.  With the new Pop Toss the height, spin and arc of the ball are also adjustable to simulate a wide range of pitches and locations unlike anything on the market.  It helps combat problem areas in the strike zone and since it is easily adjustable, working on a myriad of different pitches and locations from one hitter to the next becomes effortless.  It’s the coaches’ dream, the hitters perfect companion and can finally be the solution for what to do with enthusiastic youngsters who have just left tee-ball and aren’t ready for live pitch baseball.

Mission Statement

To our potential customers:

We want to thank you for giving us a few moments of your time. Our main objective here at Pop Toss Inc. is to promote softball and baseball, specifically to ensure more youngsters choose softball and baseball as their main sport of enjoyment. Many of us remember the enjoyment of the game and have the love of the game. Hitting a ball with a bat is perhaps the most enjoyable part of playing either Softball or Baseball.

Our goal is to entice youngsters to remain in youth Baseball and Softball leagues so that we can help these sports gain more enrollments and keep the kids having fun.  Most kids leave Baseball and Softball after Tee-Ball because they are thrown into games where the pitchers aren’t ready to pitch to hitters and the hitters have not begun to gain the skills and abilities to hit a moving ball.  The games are filled with hit batters and walk after walk, draining all the fun out of the sport.  Coaches sometimes have to pitch to the hitters and it makes the games long and boring to the coaches, parents, and most of all the kids.  Sometimes pitchers loose confidence because they’re hitting batters and there is too much pressure at such a young age to succeed.  This is why Soccer is the biggest youth sport in America, because it’s fast paced and has limited pressure on the kids, they are free to have fun and just play the game.

Pop Toss Inc. is teaming up with Park Districts to start Poptoss leagues and hopefully bring some of that fun back to the game.  Youth Tee-Ball is great and helps develop a love for the game in children across America, however once kids are in the post Tee-Ball leagues little of what they learned is helpful in live pitching situations.  With having a Poptoss league after Tee-Ball the batters can develop the skills and abilities to hit a moving ball while the pitchers can develop their control and location to be ready in a year or two to face live hitters.

The Pop Toss can also be used for indoor 5 on 5 or 6 on 6 leagues using a foam ball.  This allows the young players to develop those infield fundamentals while keeping the game fast paced for those short attention spans.  With the foam ball Pop Toss leagues the action stays on the infield and hitters are getting on base, running and having fun, while the fielders are being kept busy and honing their skills and fundamentals on defense.

These are just a few of the ways we can rejuvenate youth Baseball and Softball in this country.  We are committed to making batting practice more efficient at what we’ve been teaching kids for years as well as more fun to keep these kids interested.  This new Poptoss Batting Machine will accomplish all that’s been mentioned and so much more.
